Introduction

The District of Joban make uses of Slideshow/Image2map to display graphical images across the world. Both of these mods require an image to be uploaded to the internet before being able to be imported in Minecraft.

The primary image host used by staff members are usually consisted of:

  • Discord
  • Imgur
  • GitHub (Joban Images)

Below we will go through each of the options.

Discord

Mods Result
Image2Map OK (Need to remove width/height query param)
Slideshow Not recommend (Expire after ~24h)

By uploading images as a message to Discord, you get a temporary link that expires after a period of time.

This link can be used to generate map art via Image2Map, as after this point the image is stored on the Minecraft Server. However using Discord is not suitable for use with Slideshow, as it relies on the Discord link which expires after some time.

It is not optimal to keep track of images on Discord, as it's likely you would have no way to search the image back directly.

Imgur

Imgur is an image hosting service.

The directly link can be obtained by right clicking your uploaded images, and clicking on Open Image in a new tab.

Mods Result
Image2Map Not ok (Does not work in testing)
Slideshow OK

With no account

You can upload images to imgur without signing in to any account.

As no account is involved, it is not possible to keep track of any images or delete it afterwards.

Without major backings for the service, there is no guarantee that these images will not be deleted in the future, as announced earlier in 2023.

With an account

With an imgur account, you would have more control over the images you uploaded, including editing, deleting and more.

Images uploaded can be categorized in a Post/Album and saved to your account, and you can give the post a name for keeping track of.

GitHub

GitHub is a platform that hosts git repository (Now operated by Microsoft), primarily for software development (i.e. codes, etc.).

However, there is no limit on what kind of content you can put there (As long as it abides by the ToS). Many people uses GitHub to host Websites (via GitHub Page), Notes and Tips, as well as assets like images and texts.

An account is required to create/upload anything.

It is possible to categorize/rename images into folders as you choose, just like how you would managing your files on your computer.

A file can be replaced in-place, as long as the file name is the same.

Mods Result
Image2Map OK
Slideshow OK

Joban Image

Interface of Joban Image

Joban Image is a website that serves as a frontend to upload files to GitHub.

It aims to replicate the fast and convenient interfaces of image hosting service, allowing you to search through previous images, while providing the benefits of hosting on GitHub.

It can be accessed via img.joban.org. You need to create an account and a public repository of your own before continuing.

If you are a part of The District of Joban GitHub Organization (Usually for Admins), you can use the DistrictOfJoban/Neptune repository instead without creating a new one.
