History

Kata Station is one of the newest stations in Lamtsu, and is the newest station in the Yamate Line Fare Zone. The station opened in 2012 to serve increasing passenger traffic in the area, and also because the Kata Development Project gave HRT Lamtsu a large amount of money to construct the station. The station was constructed on top of the original Yamate and Namboku Line tracks to minimise disruption to railway traffic.

During the 2022 Lamtsu Railway Rebuild, Kata Station was expanded significantly and saw the addition of a second building to the north of the station, right next to the Kata Freight Terminal. The depot was relocated from the east of Kata station to the West of Kata station, and houses the trains for the Lamtsu and Seiyo Main Lines.

In July 2022, Kata Station was closed temporarily to make way for the new alignment of the Ome Line platforms, which were built directly under the current station. As the platforms were very close to the surface, they had to be built using cut-and-cover.
