Station Classification is a method of classifying stations depending on their status to help planners determine what services will stop and what passenger traffic amounts to plan for. Different companies have a different set of standards.

Currently, of the "Big 3" railway companies, only the Station Classification of HRT Lamtsu is disclosed publicly.

Big 3

Shintetsu

Shintetsu classificications, where not stated to be different, are the same as Harmony Rail Transit (Lamtsu) classifications.

As the only current multi-modal rail operator in the region, (Rigel Corp will soon become the second) Harmony Rail Transit (Lamtsu) had different classifications for Passenger and Cargo stations. When ferry services were more prominent, Ferry Stations also had classifications. The Misato City Tram and Tai Hing tram were handed to Lamtsu Rapid Transit in 2022, so Harmony Rail Transit (Lamtsu) abolished the classification for trams. As of 2022, the classifications used by Harmony Rail Transit (Lamtsu) and Sorano-Misato Railway Transport are the same.

Passenger

HRT Lamtsu uses the following classification.

Stations from class I to V are designated as "Major"

Stations from class V-X are designated as "Minor"

Stations from class XI to XV do not receive a designation.

Classification
Class Stop Services Desc. Function Example
I All All Class I stations function as the primary terminal stations for Major cities. All long-distance services must terminate at this station. Only Commuter Lines are allowed to pass through the station without terminating. This station must accommodate Shinkansen services. The station must contain a Midori No Madoguchi ticket office and normal Ticketing machines for Limited Express services that switch station zone types. (Ngo Tin and Sakura use different systems, with Lamtsu being +10000 and Ngo Tin being centred from Fuka Station. Sakura is -10000). The stations must be designed for sudden bursts of passengers instead of a steady stream of commuters, and must be able to accomodate rush hour traffic at the highest Shinkansen frequency, with one minute for passengers to disembark and 2 minutes between Shinkansen. The stairs, lifts and escalators must be able to accomodate passeger traffic and clear the platform at 400ppm at the minimum, to prevent crush injuries. Transfer Lamtsu
II All All Class II stations serve as the primary directional terminal station for a certain area. All long-distance services must end service at this station, excluding those with through service to a Class I station. This station must serve all the long distance lines from the direction it is built in. The station may have multiple buildings, but is not required to have lifts. The Terminating Platforms, if they are Bay Platforms, must be able to accomodate the longest of the trains (12 cars), excluding Class II stations that are satellite Class II to reduce the traffic on the station. The Class II station may be busier than the class I station, and must have a Midori no Madoguchi Ticket Office. Through services are only allowed for Commuter lines. For Commuter Platforms, they are required to have lifts excluding stations built before 2012. They must be able to clear the platform at 1600ppm at the minimum and be able to get everyone off the platform in 60 seconds. Cross-Platform Transfers are only allowed if the lines were built with that intent in mind. This station is not required to have Shinkansen services. Transfer Misato
III All All Class III stations serve as the primary rail terminal for a city that is not Lamtsu, Sakura or Ngo Tin. Long-distance services do not have to terminate at this station, although they must stop at this station. This includes all Limited Express services excluding the Sunrise Yamagawa. These stations serve cities of population of at least 500,000 and less than 1 million. Cities with populations greater than 1 million are classified as class I. Class II stations such as Misato and Otaki only apply to the cities of Ngo Tin, Lamtsu and Sakura. The station does not even need to serve more than 1 line, as long as the Main Line is a major main line, and the station is the central station of the city. Transfer Ome
IVa All excluding L. Express Normal Class IVa stations are stations that serve as major transport hubs and fall within the purview of an Urban Area. They must serve at least one Main Line and one Feeder Line (Minimum) Long Distance services do not necessarily need to stop at this station, but if the passenger entry of this station is at least 60,000 (daily), it is strongly encouraged for services to stop at this station. Limited Express Services only calling at class III stations and above are only allowed if the route does not parallell a Shinkansen. Transfer Hayakawa
IVb All All Class IVb stations are stations that have a Shinkansen Stop and a stop on another line, and fall within the purview of an urban area. As long as the station has a connection to more than one line, the station is counted as a Class IVb station, with the exception being feeder lines. In which case, continue down the hierarchy. Transfer NIL
Va All excluding L. Express Normal Class IVa stations are stations that serve as major transport hubs despite being in relatively remote areas. They must serve at least one Main Line and one Feeder Line (Minimum) Long Distance services do not necessarily need to stop at this station. Transfer Tai Hing Forest
Vb All All Class IVb stations are stations that have a Shinkansen Stop and a stop on another line. As long as the station has a connection to more than one line, the station is counted as a Class IVb station, with the exception being feeder lines. In which case, continue down the hierarchy. Transfer Fung Yuen
VI All excluding L. Express Normal Class V stations are stations in urban areas, which are legally defined as within the confines of a city, that connect to 2 lines, both which cannot be below the class of Commuter. This station must be served by Express trains at the minimum. Transfer Fukaaura
VII Shinkansen All Class VII stations are stations in urban areas or towns which have a Shinkansen stop. As long as there is a Shinkansen stop on the station, no other factors matter. Mixed Tai Hing
VIII All excluding Express and above Normal Class VII stations are stations in urban areas that connect to at least 2 lines, regardless of the class, but are not serviced by services Express and above. If both of the lines do not offer rapid services, continue down the hierarchy. Transfer Yokohama
IX All excluding L. Express Normal Class IX stations are stations that serve as the primary terminal for an area legally defined as a town. The station does not need to be connected to more than one line. Feeder Hakone
X All Commuter Class X stations are stations in urban areas that are served by commuter trains, no matter what the class of the line as long as it is a commuter. The station must not accommodate more than one line. Feeder Oshamambe
XI All Commuter Class XI stations are stations in suburban areas that are served by commuter trains, no matter what the class of the line as long as it is a commuter. The station must not accommodate more than one line. Feeder Higashi-Mihara
XII All excluding express and above Normal Class XII stations are stations which serve as the primary rail terminal for villages or towns that do not offer express services. The station must not accommodate more than one line. Feeder NIL
XIII Local, Rapid Normal Class XIII stations are stations in rural areas that are close to concentrations of population. Feeder NIL
XIV Local Normal Class XIV stations are stations that serve only populations less that 4,000. but above 500. Feeder NIL
XV Local Normal Class XV stations are stations that serve populations below 500. Feeder Mishato Tower

Freight

Classification
Class Line Description Function Example
I Dedicated Freight The primary freight terminus for the cities of Lamtsu, Ngo Tin and Sakura. The freight terminal must be connected to a dedicated freight line in order to minimise effects on passenger traffic. It is reccomended for the site of this terminus to be placed near to Industrial Areas. The Cities of Sakura and Ngo Tin prohibit freight-only stations in areas where the developments are more than 25% residential. These stations can be a place for transfer to another station, hold trains for Night Services, or simply be the endpoint of the service. Transfer/Holding/Terminal Kata Freight Terminal
II Dedicated Freight The satelite freight terminals for the cities of Lamtsu, Ngo Tin and Sakura. The freight terminal must be connected to a dedicated freight line, or a line that is used primarily for freight. These terminals are generally for intra-urban transport of freight along the dedicated freight corridor, but services can and should be scheduled for intercity freight along these corridors to avoid overstressing the primary frieght bypass, especially if said bypass is commonly utilised by passenger trains as well (See Vtuber Park Line) Holding/Terminal Mihara Freight Terminal
III Freight Branch This terminus must feed to a class II or I station with a service at least daily. This station is to service areas that generally have significant heavy industry output and do not have adequate connections to other means of bulk transport. However, all freight stations and branches that serve aviation hubs with the purporse of transporting the goods from the aerodrome at a quicker pace will instantly fall under the this category. Stations with Historical importance as freight terminals cannot be demoted below this category, as the cost involved in mantaining them would significantly outweight the cost of demolishing the station. Terminal Misato Freight Terminal
IV Main Line This station can be any station on a Main Line that has a slight cross off the Main Line, with a dedicated building seperate from the passenger building. The 2 buildings do not necessarily have to connect, but if the station is to serve general purporse freight such as Mail, then the connection would facilitate and encourage the usage of the freight service with greater intervals among the common civilian population. Feeder Ome
V Any Line This station is any station on any line with a dedicated freight platform that is part of the same station building, and has few differences from a normal platform excluding the reservation for freight. All services must pass through this station and cannot turn back. Feeder Mishato Tower
VI Any Line This station is any station with scheduled freight services. Similar to the class V, the station has no visual differences from other passenger exclusive stations, but there is no dedicated platform for freight. Feeder
VII Any Line This station is any station with no regularly scheduled freight services due to a lack of demand, but has the universal platform type required to accomodate freight trains as well as the clearance. -
VIII Any Line This station is any station that cannot physically handle freight trains, even in an emergency. Stations of this class do not recieve a formal or informal class name. This class is merely an umbrella class not to be used for planning. -

Major Private Railways

Lamtsu

The 12 Major Private Railways of Lamtsu all use different classifications.

Misato Railway Transport
Passenger only
Class Description Example
I Class I stations function as the primary transfer between the MRT network and the HRT network. Such stations must be able to handle a large volume of passengers moving between 2 specific points, and the passenger lines of movement should be planned accordingly. SMRT Misato
II Class II stations function as the primary transfer between the MRT network and any other railway company. The same standards should apply to the station design, however. Nishi-Yokohama
III Class III stations are stations with interchanges between 2 or more lines on the MRT network. As there is no need for a Fare Zone change, it is possible to design the station with less capacity than the class I or II stations. Nagano
IV Class IV stations are stations on the MRT network that serve as the main terminal for a city, but are only served by 1 line. Meji
V Class V are all other stations on the network. Okubo
Haebaru Railroad (Nantetsu)
Passenger
Class Description Example
