Light Rail, the full name Light Rail Transit, is a hybrid form of urban rail transit. It is generally similar in feature to a tram, yet may use the same gauge as the metro and operate at higher speeds. In some places, they are almost indistinguishable from the ordinary metro trains, where the difference is merely a matter of schematics.
In Joban, specifically the Administrative Region of the District of Joban, the term "Light Rail" is used to refer to any system, that uses tram rolling stock. As such, many of the systems are very much not the conventional definition of light rail. The prime example of this is the Fuka Light Rail, which runs grade-separated from all other systems, elevated for much of it's route, and has distances between stations comparable to the Rigel Line, making it dissimilar from Medium Capacity Systems. However, due to the low top speed of the line (40km/h) and the very low maximum throughput keeps it as a light rail. In recent times, systems in Joban have begun to use the term "APM", Automatic People Mover, instead of light rail. Despite this distinction in naming, there is no difference between the APM and the Light Rail in Joban. KCRC is the only Light Rail operator in Joban.
In Sorano, Light Rail is more inclined to the traditional definition of Light Rail, as depicted by the Mei Tao light rail. It does not run on the road, and as such is considered Light Rail and not a tram. In the Capital, "Light Rail" is not referred to as light rail, with the general term used being "Tram". Several campaigns have been made for Light Rail to provide more transport in the suburbs or Lamtsu, especially the south-western section, but due to administrative cockups on the side of the government, there is no way for any new lines in Lamtsu to be proposed. Both Harmony Rail Transit (Joban) and Harmony Rail Transit (Lamtsu) operate Light Rail services.
