In Joban, Railways are classified into a few factors. The definitions differ between companies, with only Harmony Rail Transit having a standard form of classification for the railroads. There are 2 parts to line classification in general, the first being based on the volume of cargo and then the area or the nature of the line. Only Passenger Lines are subject to these classifications, as Freight is virtually non-existent in the District.

Feeder Railway Lines that link to main lines with little to no traffic stopping at the stops within the line itself. Vtuber Park Line
Rapid Transit Lines that run at high frequencies with less that 1.5km on average between stops. Formerly Yamate Line
Metro Underground Lines that run at high frequencies, greater than Rapid Transit, and with larger rolling stock capacities.
No Suffix Lines that do not fit into any of the listed categories. Tozai Line
Commuter Railway Lines that operate with sections within a city, have a frequency of 2.5-7 minutes between each train, and have 6-12 car rolling stock (High Capacity). Namboku Line
Express Railway Lines that operate as bypasses to main lines, with maximum speeds above 120km/h, and not higher than 160km/h. Services operating on these lines will charge a surcharge for entry. Mihara-Misato Line
Frieght Lines that serve primarily frieght, though Passenger Trains can use the line as well. Misato Freight Line

APM An Automatically operated system with throughput slightly higher than of a Tram. Generally elevated and using APM rolling stock. Vtuber Park APM
Light Rail Lines that run using tram rolling stock but do not run on roads, being grade-separated from other networks. Former Hakone Line
Ropeway/Cable Car Lines that use Cable Cars. Hakone Ropeway (Proposed)
Rural Lines that run in rural areas. Ome Line
Rural Feeder Lines that run in rural areas to feed to Main Lines. Mei Tao Light Rail
Rural Rapid Transit Lines that run at high frequencies in rural areas. As such lines would be immensely unprofitable, no lines of this sort exist.
Rural Metro Metro Lines that run in rural areas. The Yokohama Subway used to be a Urban Metro, but due to the development loss in the area and the south-west push in development, it was reclassified as a Rural Metro until it's closure in 1997. Rural Commuter Lines that run with Commuter Rolling stock and throughput in rural areas. Generally only seasonal. Hakone Express
Rural Express Lines that run through rural areas as bypasses to main lines, with a higher speed limit than the main line. Kujukuri Line
Rural Frieght Frieght Lines that run in rural areas. Currently no such lines exist.
Suburban Feeder Lines that run in suburban areas to feed to Main Lines or Commuter lines. Currently no such lines exist.
Suburban Rapid Transit Lines that run in suburban areas with high frequencies. Currently no such lines exist.
Suburban Metro Metro Lines that run in suburban areas. The southern portion of the Sakuho Line can be counted as such. Sakuho Line
Suburban Commuter Lines that run primarily in the suburbs with commuter rolling stock and passenger throughput. Mihara Line
Suburban Express Lines that run through suburban areas as bypasses to main lines, with a higher speed than the main line. Mihara-Misato Line
Suburban Frieght Frieght Lines that run through suburban areas. As of the 2022 Lamtsu Railway Rebuild, the Misato Frieght Line will be converted to the Vtuber Park Line. Misato Frieght Line
Urban Feeder Urban Lines that feed to Terminal Stations. Currently no such lines exist.
Urban Rapid Transit Urban Lines that have high frequencies but run above-ground or at-grade, within the boundaries of the Yamate Line (Lamtsu only). The Tozai Line was one such line until it's extension. Currently no such lines exist.
Urban Metro Urban Lines that have high frequencies but run underground, within the boundaries of the Yamate Line (Lamtsu only). Currently no such lines exist.
Urban Commuter Commuter Lines that run exclusively within urban areas. Yamate Line
Urban Express Lines built as bypasses with higher speed limits than the other lines. Lamtsu-Misato Line
Urban Frieght Frieght Lines that operate exclusively within urban areas. Mihara Freight Branch
Main Line Railway Lines that travel very long distances, and have frequencies no greater than 10 minutes per train. Chuo Main Line
Mini-Shinkansen Existing Main Lines converted to Shinkansen operation with a maximum speed of no greater than 160km/h. Must link to an existing Shinkansen line. Shima Shinkansen
Shinkansen High-Speed lines built approximately parallel to existing Main Lines, but with speeds above 200km/h. Nagano Shinkansen
