History

Yamate Station opened in 1947 as the southern terminus of the Yamate Line, back when the urban area of Yamate City was still distinguishable from Lamtsu. The initial station had only 1 terminating bay platform, until the line was extended to Otaki in 1958, where another platform was added. The Namboku Line connected to the station in 1968, after which another set of Side Platforms were added to the station. The station was rebuilt in 2022 in the Great Lamtsu Railway Rebuilding, in which the underpass was switched out for an overpass and the side platforms converted to Island.

The Misato City Tram platforms were built in 1998.
