The District of Joban Iizuna Line

Iizuna Line

From The District of Joban

The Iizuna Line wass a railway line in Sora, Lamtsu, owned and operated by Sotetsu (Sora Railway Company). The was constructed in 1952 by the same company, but was bought by Aotetsu in 1986. It was sold back to the company for a brief period of 2 months, after which it was scrapped and Sotetsu stopped operations in October 2022.

It runs through the Sora administrative region of Lamtsu, stopping at the town of Iizuna, before re-joining the old Ome Line at Yellowstones. The line connects Kata Station in Misato City and Lamtsu Vtuber Park (Formerly Mihara Station). The line is the shortest route from Kata to Tsuwano, but is slower due to the restrictions placed on it by the Sora city council.

Services

All services on the line are operated as local trains.

From Kata to Higashi-Sora and from Yellowstones to Lamtsu Vtuber Park, the Iizuna Line can be considered to be the local service to the Ai-Liner, or an alternative route to the Vtuber Park Line (Before it was closed). Rapid services would run on the line from 1970 to 1990, before Sora lost it's cultural value and is now an enclave in the centre of the Lamtsu Urban Area.

History

The Iizuna Line was constructed by the Sora Railway Company in 1952, making it one of the oldest railways in Lamtsu. The line ran from Kata (then Kimotsuki) to Iizuna, and was single-tracked all the way. During the Sora Coup d'état, the portion of the line from Sora to Kata was demolished and would not be rebuilt.

Later services would go via a branch off the Misato Freight Line viaduct, before rejoining the old line. The line is limited to 60km/h between Higashi-Sora and Yellowstones, and to 40km/h between Yellowstones and Tsuwano. After the 2022 Lamtsu Railway Rebuild, Sotetsu shares the fare system with Harmony Rail Transit (Lamtsu), making there 4 companies on the HRT (Lamtsu) Fare System.

Capital City West Sky University Front Station (首都西部地域空大学前駅, Shuto seibu chiiki sora daigaku-mae-eki) was opened as an infill station on the Iizuna Line between Iizuna and Higashi-Sora. This station has the longest station name of any station in central lamtsu, excluding Lamtsu Metro lines. It was built at the request of the Sora City Government, who wanted easier access to the university enterance.
